My name is Tero, and I’m the founder of Four Sigmatic. Six years ago, I was sitting in a grey-paneled cubicle of a large corporation, uninspired by my day job, wanting to do something more meaningful.
I didn’t feel like I was making the world a better place, not giving my all to the world. I had a dream of doing something I loved and helping people in a substantial way. I found my purpose in my passion ― mushrooms.
Looking back now, it makes sense that I started a mushroom superfood company. I grew up on my family’s farm in Finland, foraging for mushrooms and other wild foods from an early age.
My father, recognizing my passion for agriculture, nutrition and human performance, put me into an environmental school to learn about the planet, its plants and their potential benefits to us in our daily lives. I later earned a degree in Chemistry, Business, and a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition at Cornell University.
I founded Four Sigmatic in 2012 with one goal: to create mushroom-based products that spread Everyday Magic™ to all and help people live enhanced lives.
Over the course of several years, I used my knowledge of mycology and my formal education in chemistry to source the best, log-grown mushrooms, spray-dry them to preserve their bioavailability, and use an extraction process designed to produce high concentrations and purity of the functional components.
It’s a painstaking process that takes longer, but we believe it produces a superior product. And our customers seem to agree.
It’s also important to me to offer customers a range of products that are organic, vegan, gluten free, non-GMO, and free of fillers.
